Putin agrees to order planning, survey of Russia's Sila Sibiri-2

MOSCOW, Mar 27 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to issue an order to start planning and survey works for the Sila Sibiri-2 gas pipeline, he said at a meeting with CEO of gas giant Gazprom Alexei Miller on Friday.

"A preliminary technical and economic study was carried out, which gave a positive answer to whether it was feasible, economically efficient. Therefore, I am asking you to order to proceed with the pre-investment stage, the development of a technical and economic study and start of engineering works for the Sila Sibiri-2 pipeline," Miller said.

Putin agreed to give a corresponding order.

Gazprom and CNPC signed a contract on supplies via the Sila Sibiri pipeline, or the eastern route, in 2014. Gazprom plans to provide China with 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year over 30 years through the pipeline. The company will start supplies via the pipeline with 5 billion cubic meters, and the facility will reach its full capacity in several years. First supplies of Russian gas through the pipeline started in December 2019.

Talks on Sila Sibiri-2 were suspended in February due to the coronavirus epidemic.
